little computer glitch?

on my dell, when ever i type, either something here on FTE or something on ms word, sometimes the cursor will just "jump" to a previous sentence or paragraph for no reason and will just start at that point to start continuing what i was typeing.

so i have have to delete the few letters i typed then position the cursor back to where it suppose to be.

anyone know why it does this?

Are you on a laptop? Don't know much about Dell, but on my Toshiba laptop, I have to be careful not to touch the touchpad while typing.

Actually, trying it now it won't do it, but I noticed the same thing on Word. Haven't seen it on FTE yet.

yes, it is a laptop.

that was my first guess that i was just touching the touch pad.

but it just started doing this recently and it does it to my wife also. plus i have had the comp for 3 years and when the typing cursor does move, its not to the same place as the mouse cursor is.

Could actually be some sort of virus, spyware whatever.

Also, you could need to update your Windows. I was having issues once, and
the Windows updater pointed out a hardware driver update. When I ran that things got better. (Although I do generally limit my MS updates to the 'critical' and not all of those)

Finally, I've had luck with various odd issues by
1. Cleaning my mouse not only the little ball, but also cleaning the gunk
from the rollers. ( We have several cats -- fur gets into EVERYTHING)
2. Defragging the disk -- seems odd, but it can help.

Odd computer problems can be real bears to figure out. They get 'carboned up' by various downloads, installs and uninstalls. Then there's hardware flakiness and viruses. It's amazing that we don't have more problems then we do.

Good luck,
