hi all, i was wonderting from all of the magnaflow users out here.... do you think there is much of a difference in sound between kits 16612 and 16614? i know the piping is different sizing, and single vs. dual, but does it sound about the same? thanks in advance !!
Wow, that cost some serious $$$ I bought 2 5x11 2.5 in/out offset center mufflers, and ran true duals. Muffler part#12586. The dual setup #16614 will sound better than the #16612 IMO.
I've had both. I liked the smooth note of the 16614 SIDO the best. It is more mellow than the 16612 SISO. The 16612 has more of a beat to its note and is slightly more coarse sounding. The 16612 makes slightly more power than the 16614 and it uses allthe factory hangers, no adding hangers or anything. The directions for the 16612 aren't real clear about the correct orientation of the muffler. It goes vertical with the offset end to the rear and the outlet on the bottom. I called the MagnaFlow tech line to find out because I could not get my tip to go to the correct location. Once I turned it vertical everything straightend out and looks great.
I havent gotten to listen to either one on vehicle, just by recordings on the website. The only reservation I had about the SISO was the appearant popping sounds.

I ended up watching the video(which is also unclear)on Magna's site and installed with the muffler outlet on the right side. Left the rear clamp loose to line-up the tip, fits just right IMHO. As far as popping, it only does it when I floor it in neutral but not while driving.
thanks for the replies guys.... that is exactly what i was looking for. i think i am going to go with thw 16612 since it uses the stock hangers easily, and you have just made light to the only bad thing i have heard about it with the installation. thanks again. ohh, where did you all order from? thanks !!
The MagnaFlow video contradicts both the printed instructions (for the 16612)and the verbal instructions I was given by the tech support line. All I can say is mine lined and fit perfectly once I turned it vertical.
that popping noise happens on my SIDO when I rev it while cold. but as soon as it is warmed up, the noise stops
the "new" hangers for the drivers side of my SIDO slipped into existing holes in the frame. I didn't have to drill anything. very easy to install, it just took some tweaking to make it look good.
The quality of a Magnaflow kit is well worth the cost, IMO.
The tone of a SISO and a SIDO system will be about the same, the dual out kit will have a bit more depth to the sound because its coming from 2 places at once.
Keep in mind that if you get the split rear kit, you may have trouble getting it to work out of the box with a tow hitch. It can easily be modified to work but it wont be a true bolt on installation.
As far as bolting it all up, it did take me a while as well to get the SISO kit to line up everywhere I wanted it to. A little tweaking and twisting of the pipes got it all lined up just perfectly.
Also a side note for 2005 up (and some late 2004) the factory mid pipe is locked on by a stud, so it wont slide straight off, you will have to loosen the clamp and give the pipe a quarter turn to remove it.
