what do you think about the high gas prices and its affect on us all and others to be or thinking to be 4x4 offroaders.do you think it will have an affect on people getting into this?I for one think it will.but i will never get out of it i love my big bad truck.
The gas prices don't help, that's for sure. There are ways that you can save money in other area of life to pay for this obsession! My buddy had a F250 with the 7.5 and 38" boggers. He gets about 7 MPG at best. You have to pay to play I guess.
I know some people are looking for smaller 4x4s w/ smaller engines instead of the big trucks w/ big V8s, but at least they're still doing it.
I bought my Bronco when gas was about $2.40 a gallon about 2 years ago, and it's $2.70 right now, and it hurts me to fill up the 33 gallon tank, but I still do it.
Worst tank I got was 4.5 mpg.... That hurt....
Best was 15 mpg and I was jumping up and down for joy.
Don't care what happens to gas prices. I will not limit my relaxation time for a litttle hike in gas prices. I have already seen gas prices close to $4.00 here in CA, and diesel runnin around $3.50 for #2, but it too is going up. There was a time when the diesel was more than gas. Regardless, whatever happens, I am driving a big truck on and off-road, and that will never stop.
It's a hobby and people already spend thousands to engage in off roading activities. Fuel is cheap considered to some peoples' vehicle costs. I could spend 50k on my truck and not be done, and it would still look like a POS to the average person who knows nothing about off roading... therefore the increase in oil prices is small compared to the overall vehicle cost.
Anyways, my point is that those who see off-roading as a hobby will not quit, just because an outing costs an average $10 to $40 more.
I agree. But as long as there are trailers in the world it'll still be around. I bought mine when gas was cheaper here in nc. Those were the good ole days. 20 bux and i (was) good to go!!
I think some people with stop just because they can't afford it. That's a shame. Some people will stop because they are not very committed to four wheelin'. To them it's just something to do for a while.
I had a 27' cigarette boat in the early to mid 90s. 454 magnum with gill, thru-hull headers. Everyone in the neighborhood knew when that boat started up - every Saturday morning. Dropped 100 gallons of gas a week playing. However, that was our vacation, recreation, play time and passion.
Just went to the deer lease this past weekend. 300 miles round trip plus miles while there. It hurt at the pump, but didn't stop us from going. I think those who are serious about the sport will stick it out. Those who aren't will find another way to amuse themselves.
I built mine back when gas was only 1.98 a gallon its crazy the high prices but i wont stop with my big trucks.I just cant understand why gas prices keep going up every few days.grrrrr
its like drag racing, i think racing gas is 4 dollars and some change. And every First Thursday i see a mess load of Dragster going down the road to Piedmont dragstrip. I even see alot going on sundays.
Guys I realize that no one wants to quit haqving fun, but I remember when I was a kid (long before a lot of you were born) and beef went to a buck a pound, dad said we don't eat beef, and we didin't, it came down. I wonder if everyone would curtail their unnecessary use of gas for a bit of time what it would happen to the price.
