after the rpms go up above 3000 rpms and the engine returns to idle, it acts stupid and starts cutting out. sometimes when i try to take off from a red light it studders and pops for a few seconds then drives normal for a while. someone told me it could be the fuel filter so it was cheap and i replaced it. it wasnt that. anyone now of anything to be causing this? ever heard of similar problems?
Are you having any jerking when you are up to speed? Many here have said the TPS is the culprit when there is studdering at takeoff and jerking at higher speeds.
A tune-up can often cure these types of problems too.....plugs, wires, cap, rotor are all thing that can give you a hesitation like that. Might make it hard to start too. I tuned mine up and stopped it.
Good Luck
ok thanks does anyone know how to test the tps. i dont wont to buy one nad it not be the problem. i will pul the plugs and cap to check them out i cant remember the last time they were changed.
their are 3 wires on it orange with the key on engine off (koeo) should be vref @5 volts the green wire is the signal wire ( tp) it should be at rest no more <.99 volts
the last wire is sig return ( ground). With a volt meter @rest you should see .99volt to w.o.t.up to 5 volts it should go smooth all the way up and down tap on the tp and wiggle the harness while doing this if it does anything other than this chances are it no good. If you can do a eec iv test code 53, 63 would also indicate this Good Luck
Yeah, you definately need to check the codes. Either read them yourself, or go to an auto parts store and read them. If your truck doesn't tell you what's wrong, then ask people to help diagnose it. But, most of the time, the truck itself will tell you where to start looking.
