With the talk of pizza toppings in rebel's topic about his 4000 posts, it got me to thinking. What does everyone here like for their pizza toppings? And do you make your own (got any recipies) or do you order it? Me personally I've tried to make it myself but it never turns out. AS for toppings I'll eat it with anything except for anchovies and pineapples.
make home made all the time, get some pizza dough from your bakery at the store, go home place it in the bowl, put a little olive oil on the top, cover with a towel or ceran wrap, and let it sit for a couple of hours or overnight, mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
by the way, diced up bonless chicken seasoned however u like it, a little diced up tomatoes, and you have a little chicken parm pizza.
fold it in half and you have a chicken parm calzone.
Any topping is good for me though bell peppers get the gas works going a little too much.
Perfect pizza for me: Lotsa meat including Canadian Bacon, sausage made from wild boar, etc., thick crust, extra sauce, light cheese, lotsa onions with some ice cold Foster's Lager from the keg.
Marv's Pizza in Paso Robles makes the best pizza I've ever had. Yes, they have Foster's on tap!
I've been making my own pizza for a while now. My favorite so far is double-pepperoni, lotsa mozz., some sweet onion, green and black olives, fresh mushrooms, Italian canned tomatoes and maybe some canned sliced jalapeno.
I made a thread a while back on the subject and I believe it was Mil1ion who got me to try some other stuff for dough. I had been making a whole wheat crust but have used a little spelt flour and flax meal i with it the last few times. It's really not that hard to make a good dough once you've done it a couple times, tastes sooo much better than even the dough from the bakery IMO. To make 2 pizza doughs:
2 packet yeast or equivalent dissolved in 2 cups warm water (let it sit for ~10 min).
2.5 cups all-purpose unbleached white flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup spelt flour
1/2 cup flax meal
4 tbs olive oil
4 tsp white sugar
2 tsp sea salt (fine, not coarse)
turn the oven on for about a minute, just to slightly warm it. Mix everything together and let it sit covered in the oven for ~30 min (about doubled). Take it out, pound it and roll it. Preheat oven to 350. I like a pretty thick crust...roll it out on a pan covered wit olive oil and a little corn meal. It takes a little while to cook...take it out when the top layer of cheese is browning.
When I lived in Texas,
I tried Rattlesnake pizza,,, OMG!!! LOVED IT!
But now that I'm in Louisville, home of Papa John's, I'll usually order my pizza with the Meat Lovers, or BBQ chicken, Theres a BBQ joint here that makes a nice pizza with BBQ Pork on it. Sometimes it just depends on my mood.
