I own a 1997 F25 4x4 with a 460. This truck is used to tow and the existing motor is underpowered. I am considering installing a brand new 550HP 460 crate motor from Ford Racing. The new motoe is carburated and my existing motoe is fuel injected (EFI). Here are my questions:
Qption 1: Convert the new crate motor to EFI
a. Will my existing EFI manifold bolt directly to the crate motors Super Cobra Jet heads?
b. If not, who makes an aftermarket EFI manifold for this motor?
c. Will my on-board computer require any modifications to run this new motor?
Option 2: Install the "carburated" crate motor in the truck
a. Will the on-board computer require any mod's to run a "carburated" motor?
Any help from someone who's "been there" is greatly appreciated.
The EFI intake and heads are different from the carb. versions.
You dont need a computer to run a carb motor, but you will need it to operate your automatic trans if you have one.
Also, the search feature of the forum will probably be very helpful. Questions very similar to this have been addressed many times in the past. Good luck on your decision.
