ford 1973 460 crate motor

any help i kindly thank you..i purchased a 1976 ford F150 CUSTOM 4X4 pickup truck from an elderly neighbor that took me 15 yrs to get it from him.. he also sold me a 1973 ford 460 crate motor that he had plans to install yrs ago but never got arround to doing it..the truck has a superb 390 motor in it that just hit 80,000 miles looks and runs like a new truck as its been drove little in the last 30 yrs but maintained to the max..he put maybe 2000 miles a yr. on the truck he said..hes has moved since ive bought the truck and 460 motor so i now only no after removing from the crate its as he said never been started..is a new remanfactured 460 numbers on the heads are D3VE-A2A.. ON BLOCK has a square aluminim sticker that says remanfactured with these #s 682084.. NUMBERS ON BLOCK ARE D9TE-AB.. one man came here to look at the 460_put a socket on front of motor turned it over..and all he tried to do was buy the motor..but said he knew nothin about it/not true i could see..the headman headers are new old stock/msd ignition/distributor/new old stock in box. new old stock holley 4b card/motor has a eldebrock 460 intake highrise..all parts are here many to list..anyway is it worth taking out a perfectly good motor to install this large 460 or stay with the 390 and sale the 460..also has 460 transmission/tort convertor..all it takes to put in truck is with motor..even 2 new old stock motor mounts 460 on them/alternator fan..so much stuff..do i gain hp or stick with the nice 390..im not a manchanic.. pls help with info..best reguards.. don1958@penn.com all pictures are on my face book donald r dean or the email..i dont no what to do and have motor out of crate now..so i got to do something..tks all

I would stick with the 390 if it runs fine. I love those motors. I also love 460's but I dont think youd gain much by swaping it in. The D9T markings on the block means that it was originally a block from a 1979 or newer truck.

I say keep the truck as is, Keep the 460 and parts, find a donor truck and start a new project! IMHO I don't feel you over paid, if things are as mint condition as you say they are.

X3 on keeping the 390. Either sell the 460 or, as suggested by 78longbed, start another project, one dentside isn't enough....or two, or three, or........

I love the 460s but if you have a great running 390 I would not swap it either. Now if you had a great running 351/400 then I would swap it for the 460. haha.

Could drop the 460 in the truck an stick the 390 in a mustang or something like that.

Larry, That's a nice looking truck! You probably have aquired some nice stuff with the crate motor that the rest of us have to scroung for. Looks to me like it doesn't need anything, so start looking for another dent to drop that 460 in!

Jeff
