PTO usage

does anyone actually use their PTO on the transmission? I would like to put a hydraulic pump hooked up to it for various things mostly a wood splitter but was just wondering if you guys have any ideas of how it works or how to hook something up.

I have not.

But, I have heard that PTO's have rather limited HP ratings- so be sure to check that before you get going. Hate to build some awesome setup only to find the PTO's only good for 20 hp or something...
