Ok, when i get in the truck after it sits for two days or more the routine is this : the truck will start and run for about 5 secs and kills. turn ignition off wait for glow plugs and she fires up and runs for about 2 secs and kills. Third time she starts and runs rough, give it a good rev or two and white/ blue smoke comes out the pipe and roughness smoothes out. If i run the truck everyday it does not do this, only when i let it sit for 2 to 3 days or more without starting it. I have installed all new motorcraft glow plugs and same thing. New glow plug relay. New fuel filter. new exhaust backpressure sensor. afe filter kit. new oil change. All of the glow plug wires are connected and whatever else needs to be double checked has unfortunately been quadruple checked. " I hate taking them d--m valve covers off " ! What could it be ?

I know there are far more knowledgwable here than me, but my guess is this sounds like a fuel pump/pressure problem. After starting a few times and running the pressure builds up enough to sustain delivery, but after a few days bleeds down.
I am sure the PST gods here will offer more insight.
HPOP reservoir oil level. Sounds like you res is draining down. After it sit a day or so, pull the plug on top of the HPOP res it should be a 1/4 square you can use a 1/4 ratchet on or an allen head plug. The oil should be about a 1/2 inch from the top or higher. Hope that helps.
first check is the reservior that RubberDuck said. also just for the fun of it plug the block heater in and try it. i am wondering if it not the cool weather romps. the cold oil doesn't flow well. What are the temps when you start it? shouldn't be very cold anymore.
well thats plenty warm. probably not cold weather romps! but plug it in and give it a try anyway.
as far as drian back the 95's have a check valve in the HPOP. I don't know how it works or where it is but I suppose it could be leaking. a new HPOP would probably be the answer. Or I wonder if bad inejctor o-rings could cause draining? I am think out loud so feel free to comment. if its the hpop then I think the best thing to do would be to find a 17*superduty pump and just do the drain back mod on that. the 96 and later PSD have a anti-drain back mechanism in the timing cover. so drain back is an issue if you put a superduty pump on a 95 or earlier timing cover. there is a fix for that which might even work with your current pump if thats the issue.
Oh, if the hpop is not full , do i add motor oil to it? I use the rotella. Does the hpop suck oil from the engine or is it a self contained unit that operates off of its own reservoir? Thanks.

correct. just fill the reservior with what ever motor oil you are using. the lube oil pump fills the reservior and then the HPOP pressurizes it for the injectors, injectors use it and spit it back into the valve cover then drains to the pan and around again.
I filled the hpop to about 1/4 of the way to the top. It was real low. If it leaks down again is there anyway to stop it from leaking down. The truck started right away with no problems with the oil level about full. I will let it sit for a couple of days and see how it goes.
Here's your check valve, the HPOP needs to be removed;
Click Herefor more info. You will need to join the forum in this link to see the other pictures. This link show how to use a newer HPOP in an older system. Good picts.
