Didn't try and get your panties in a bunch, but I've yet to hear/see a F150 4x4 with a 9" rear axle(nothing to do w/ 50-60s model trucks, I believe they used the D44 rears in F100 4x4s)
I have seen F150 2wds w/ D44 rear ends like you parts catalog said.
I'll try and take a pic of the metal tag that is on the back of my D44 under the 77 F100 which was my dad's truck, and his grandfather's truck before him, and basically nothing was changed on the truck over the 30 years it's been in the family, so it's stock. Sorry your catalogs don't say anything about it!
In Mil1ion's second link, after quickly going through it(could have missed somthing), it didn't show a gear ratio(for what ever reason) for the D44 other than 4.56 for a front Rev. Cut.
The 9" showed a gear ratio of 3.50
I didn't care to start an arguement, and don't care to continue one, so I'll shut up.
The info on the door plate under axl reads as N91 for designation. Not sure if this is correct, very faded.
Thanks,
On 4x4's from this era, the first two digits refer to the rear axle type/capacity and ratio, the third digit to the front axle type/capacity and ratio. The third digit also adds whether the truck has either power steering, tilt wheel, etc.
But, there's no N anything listed, and the third digit 1 is also incorrect.
It might be H9. It's the only letter listed that is followed by a 9. The third digit could be either a letter or a number, but not the number 1 because Ford didn't use it for a third digit. I also doubt the third digit is the letter I as that refers to an F250.
