Got home tonight, and turned off key, but truck kept running! I had to pull the fuse for the coil to get engine to shut off, but the indicator lights in dash stayed on. I ended up disconnecting battery. I'm guessing bad ignition switch, but not sure because while driving home, I turned on left turn signal, and got 4 way flashers. Has anyone experienced this or can offer advice. Truck is a 98 with 5.4 and 24000 miles. Any help will be appreciated
I would take a look at the fuse box and see if there is water in it from a leaky windshield. Usually when they get water in them things like the heater wont shut off but I guess anything is possible
I've replaced quite a few fuse boxes for this problem.
It's hard for me to imagine water in the fuse panel being able to conduct enough electricity to make the coil fire. But like you said, anythings Possible. But I would probably look somewhere else. If you have a tilt colum, it's possible that it could be pinching the wires, causing a short, which could explain the not shutting off, and the signal problem. If you do have a tilt colum, maybe try starting the truck, turn the key off, and then see if the truck will shut off by moving the colum around.
