[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Oct-02 AT 00:32 AM (EST)]Now don't get me wrong, I love my truck, and I'd buy another one if anything happened to it. My uncle has the same one that I do only his has a maroon paint job, and he has 250,000 miles on it, and all he's ever had to do is change the oil and new tires, he bought his new in 1997. It's a Lariat, just like mine, with a 4.6l Triton V8, bla bla. That's not the point. The question here is, why are Ford's better than Chevy's? I mean, I tried to explain to a friend of mine who is a Chevy guy, and he keeps saying "Found on road dead," stuff like that, and I just tell him "best selling truck of the year...how many times in a row?" But I was just curious why you guys think Fords are better than Chevy's. I know there aren't that many facts that can prove Fords rule, if any at all. Maybe someone has a valid reason for liking Fords that will make my friend stop ragging on my F-150. Thanks.
Well, I've been in a Ford for the last 30 years so for me there is'nt anything else, but Ford was the first to use molyplasma technology in their motors which is why the Triton series are so bulletproof. They are also the first and only(as far as I know) American motor to pass the European Autobahn test. As I remember, the test is the motor sitting on a stand with a dyno load on it and the motor is run at wide open and max rpm for 1000 hours. If you work 40 hours a week- well lets just say a 1000 hours is a long time. The ergonomics are far superior to any of the other manufacturers. Is it First On Race Day? If I wanted a race truck I'd drive my 74 F-100 with a hopped up 391. I buy a truck for dependability and low maintenance cost. That has Ford written all over it.

Don't try and apply logic why some drive chevies. You can get in big debates about which color is easy to keep clean, etc and you generally will not change their mind. Some drive chevy's because they want to. That's fine. I drive a Ford because I can and because I want to. Besides, it's fun making remarks about their trucks limitations.
If all your buddy can say is "Found On Road Dead", how old is this twelve-year old? He sounds too stupid to understand any intelligent point. Stop wasting your time. Just give him a lollipop, pat him on his head, and make certain he has milk money for recess.
Well, see because he goes "what do you drive?" And as a proud Ford owner, I pull out my keychain with the big rubber Ford oval keychain on it and say "what do you think?" He goes, "bah, found on road dead," so I automatically just say, "well what do your keys go to?" So he goes on and says, "man, chevy's are way better, Ford's are cheap peices of #####, the put them together like #####ing fast and cheap." Then I said "...and Ford F-150's have been the best selling truck how many years in a row?" So he said, "yeah cause they are #####in cheap," I say, "cheap? you know how much my f-150 cost? $33,057, is that really that cheap? I guess you can buy two or three right now then?" He just went on about "you get what you pay for," blah blah. But his main point was that Fords were cheap unreliable peices of dung. I told him about my uncle's truck. It's the same damn thing as mine, only it has a maroon finish. He's been about 250,000 miles in that truck, and all he's ever had to do was change the oil, the tires, and crap like the wipers and wiper fluid, that's it, no joke. And I was thinking, how many times have my Chevy friends been to the shop? Anyway, I'm curious to one poster, 2nd one I think, who said they like to make fun of Chevy's limitations. Please elaborate on this a little further. Thanks for the replies, keep 'em comin'.
I think you'll find that most posters here will not lower themselves far enough to get into any Ford vs. brand x arguments. It's a waste of breath.
When people ask me what I drive and I respond with Ford....If they start giving me crap I walk away and mutter something about finding more GM parts in junk yards.
Most true motorheads, regardless of their favorite make, will start up a conversation as they talk about their projects. I have more people start talking about the retro swap to the old mustang II/pinto front ends or the 9" rear. I've even had a true chevy guy tell me how much of a piece the chevy straight sixes were. He had obviously researched the subject, as the inline six with the highest reliability and longevity would be the Ford 240/300 series.
Tell your "friend" when he can come up with a better response and some proof about the claims you'll talk vehicles. Until them ignore the neanderthal.
I prefer Fords over chevy for one reason only : Build Quality. My father in law is a bit of a GM fan and because of this I've had the opportunity to ride in a few chevy's. After a couple of years the chevy's I've driven have turned into rattle traps. This has not been so with the Ford's i've driven.
Chev 6.0 liter v-8 is more powerfull than the ford 6.8 liter v-10. And, Chev trucks ride and handle better than fords, get better milage, and have more comfortable interior. Think about it. Don't belive me. Go test drive both. See for yourself.
Hehehe, can't lie to yourself.
I'm a mechanic. My boss put a goodwrench 350 in a mid 70's chev van befor I started working there. But since I've started. I have had the privlage to work on it a couple of times, oil changes and tuneups, etc. It runs perfect, but it does smoke a little, and is a little tired, but hell, it does have 400,000 miles on it. You'd have to expect it be a little tired. And ya can't hardly blame it for smokin' a little. Hmmmmmm, maybe it doesn't take molyplasma to make a good engine.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-Oct-02 AT 02:18 AM (EST)]Are these brand new chevys that you're talking about that turned into rattle traps after a couple of years. Are they used trucks you've gotten. What you've written doesn't really say a hell of alot.
I drove a ford once and it broke down in a couple of minutes. That doesn't really say alot either, does it. The history of the truck makes more than a little bit of difference, wouldn't ya think???? I have to shake my head.
My dad works for a gas pipeline company were trucks really get used hard, like hauling heavy loads off road, lot of stop and go driving and people letting them run all day long just to keep the inside cool for the ride home at the end of the day. They get pulled in twice a year for new filters and oil and put back on the job. Seven years ago they had all chevys and their end of year repair costs had gotten out of hand. They chose ford first because of the fleet price quote but have gone back to ford every time they loose a truck (fire or theft is the only thing that takes them out). I went to ford and so did everybody in the crew after that. Like my dad said a ford my cost you a little more in fuel but they will always start and get you home. The fords I have owned and have now can be described in one word, bulletproof.
I have to agree, Fords are better. My father has 3 chevys and the best running one has a Cat Diesel in it. The other 2 are gas and are always in the shop. Wonder why? Any way I've had my Ford for 6 months and it has not been to the shop any. My only problem is I need to get the front end aligned. Other than that, it is real good. Some of my friends drive Chevy Z71s that are newer and they claim "better" than my Ford 4x4. Well, last week one of them couldn't get his transfer case to engage, turns out the computer in it crapped out on him. And the week before his master cylinder ruptured. And his a/c wouldn't cut off. And another one of my friends blew his rearend out while 4-wheelin' in a Z71. And another Chevy at school smokes like a freight train. Well, I guess that just goes to show you what Chevys are really made of. I have the longest and most powerful truck at school. It's not the tallest and it don't have the biggest tires, but when it comes time to move a 5 ton trailer, my 95 F-250/460 walks with it even up a hill--no downshifts. My father's C3500 with a 454 can't do that even with the same rear ratio.
I rented a 2002 Siverado while waiting for my FX to come in. The Chevy was so cheasey inside I was embarrased to drive it. It felt like a car. Even the Z71s are wimpy. My front axle is bigger than the Z71 rear axle. I test drove a Tahoe Z71 and it had horible steering. It was so nice to get my new FX. So stout and better performing.
All i can say is my first ride (in 1980 high school)was a 69 F100 Ranger,swb,hi-po390,4speed,dana60 posi rear,a/c,rear sliding window..ALL FACTORY!!!!!!Then, after school,i got bit by the chevy bug...but i still drove Ford trucks.I now still have chevy orange running thru my veins, but i still bleed Ford blue.Oh,and i still drive Ford trucks....got a 97F150!
