I have a 2004 f250 with a 5.4l and it won't start. I went to leave the store and went to start it and the truck started when I turned the ignition on not when I engaged the starter so I drove home anyway but there was what sounded like a spraying noise coming from underneath the truck all the way home the truck did die once on the way home but started right back up without me doing anything. Got home shut the truck off now it won't crank or anything all my lights and everything come on like normal just won't crank. Any idea what the problem is?
Already hit with hammer and nothing I think it is the start as I just looked at it and the wires going into starter are all corroded and the wire that feeds from the small part that the wires go into to the starter motor itself looks like it had melted I believe I burned up my start?
Just checked the starter wires with a test light had a friend turn the truck to the start position then when I touched the power wire with the test light all the lights on my dash started blinking and my gages started sweeping. Took the key out of my truck and my dome light was on. My dome light would shut off then my head lights would turn on did this for about a minute. Any idea what is going on?

This is a huge clue....
For some reason your starter activated as soon as the key was turned on. Likely cause of that would be a stuck starter solenoid or a short under the dash that is sending power to the solenoid any time the key is on. This sometimes happens when the windshield leaks and water gets into the fuse panel.
The starter continued to try to crank as the engine was running and you drove it, that would be the noise from underneath.
Likely the starter is completely destroyed and possibly the starter ring on the flywheel/flex plate. You will need to pull the starter and check things over, starter is almost guaranteed to be destroyed, if you are incredibly lucky the starter ring might be ok, otherwise the transmission or engine has to come out to fix that.
Before you actually start the truck you must figure out why the starter solenoid is activated before the key is turned to crank.
