Major problem need help.

i just put a 400 into my 78, i turned the key and nothing happend, all the lights came on like normal but the starter didn't click or anything. any help is appreciated

That is in no way a major problem. Starter solenoid, battery connections, neutral safety switch, or key switch. Get your test light out!

Did you ground the new engine directly to the battery?

Time to call in one of your favors since you don't have a meter or know how to use one. :/ Get your favor returned from your friend that has a meter and knows how to use it. :)

Start swappin out new parts until the trouble clears up. ;)

For this one no meter required, all he needs is a simple test light.

well thanks for the help and it turns out i hooked the starter cable between the piece of brass and the metal on the starter so i am an idiot but it's all working good now.

Try this

Sounds like a loose ground off the solenoid. Check all the wires from the Battery to the starter, and back to the block.
