Just took my F150 Screw 4x4 King Ranch on the Highway for it's first official road trip (without towing anything). Got 18.8 MPG going between 65 to 70 mph. I have been getting around 14.2 to 14.6 in town. I have about 1300 miles on the truck and traveled about 300 miles. The sticker said I would get 14/18 so I am happy with these results. Can't wait until it gets broken in a little more and I put a synthetic oil in.

Is that hand calculated MPG or the average from the computer? Plus, are you running 3.55's or 3.73's on the KR?

That's about the mileage I have gotten since new with the same powertrain. I have 18,000 miles and the power has increased a little but the fuel mileage has stayed the same. I don't think synthetic oil will be any difference from the synthetic blend in it now and the cost will be much more.
Is the oil from the factory a synthetic blend? I was at an autopart store and saw that the Ford Motorcraft oil came in a blend. If it is a synthetic blend then I will be real tempted to keep it that way.
Ford uses Motorcraft
Motorcraft oil is a synthetic blend, and at wal mart it's $2.42 a quart, or about $10.50ish for a 5 gallon jug.
I recommend their oil filter(FL820S) too, about $3.80ish at wal mart.
use the Motorcraft oil and filter...and keep your reciepts. the blend is better than just plain dino oil, and you'll save a bit of money
glad to hear more people are getting decent mileage. there seems to be a plethora of people who get <14 mpg. I was really thinking I just had a really efficient truck. you won't pick up any extra mpg after the "break-in" though.
Just wondering what the real advantage/disadvantges are between the 3.55 and 3.73 rear end gearing ? I am getting ready to buy a new F150 after having my current one for 22 years. I plan on getting the 5.4L 4X4 Lariat.
IF you plan on towing or putting larger tires you better get one with 3.73 gears. They help move the heavy truck around better, and in my opinion, 3.73 should be standard on the 4x4s, and possibly all of them, with the 4.10 option for somthing other than an XL.
