My 2004 PSD with 50k miles and no lift needs new shocks. Many here recommend the Bilstein 5100 but I only see them for lifted trucks. What is my best option for stock height truck, Bilstein heavy duty or something else?
I don't know what the correct numbers for an '04 are but for my 05' srw F-250 they are, Bilsteins, front = BE5-2815-HO and for the rear= BE5-2816-HO. I bought them from e-shocks which is actually Don's Sport Vehicle Sales in Michigan. The total price was $259.80 including shipping which was free. No tax since I am in Ca. Hope this helps.
I got the stock-replacement Bilsteins from e-Shocks and paid about the same (260). I had 100k on my rig but didn't notice a huge improvement in ride. The yellow and blue looks cool, but I don't know how quickly I will replace shocks in the future

Your '05 has coil springs, his '04 has leaf springs. So, theyre different. And yes, Bilstein OEM replacements are for non-lifted trucks.
I put the HDs on my 2004 the weekend before it was stolen--hope they gave a horible ride after the truck was stolen. But, they gave a much better ride than the stock ranchos during the week I drove the truck. I plan on adding Bilsteins to my 2005 within the next month or so.
I have to agree with the Bilstein fans... I have been one myself forever. I use many different shocks on the lifted stuff, Fox, King, Bilstein (5100, 7100, 9100), Donahoe and Fabtech (some of which were formally manufactured by Sway-a-Way), with great success, but for stock replacement on everything from Toyotas to SD's, I use nothing but Bilsteins, simply because they are the best performing shock, regardless of price.
Stock shocks even with the level kit. e-shocks has the best prices going right now on the Bilsteins, $260 to your front door. You can get them from your local Autozone if your in a hurry for an extra $15.00ea + tax. I sure do hope it is a great improvement over stock, mine will be at my door Friday afternoon an I need a improvement in ride quality.
