[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Dec-02 AT 05:04 PM (EST)] Yellowknife NWT.So I gave him a call and set the deal. He said the price is firm. But with only 1600 org miles on this baby it's a steal. The only catch is the old guy is moving to South America in 2 weeks. So it only leaves me with 13 days to p/u this truck. So I hook up my car trailer to my 1981 Yugo and head north
.I finally make my first stop for fuel and wouldn't you know it I bump into my old auto shop teacher Mr Hornsbey who said he's now retired and spending time restoring vintage "lamps". He ask's me if I have time for a cold beer at his favoret.........
Buddy's garage. So we head over, in his 1985 F-350 4x4 dually, with a 460, but on the way he runs out of gas. We went back, got my Yugo and trailer, loaded up the truck, and headed towards-
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Dec-02 AT 07:22 AM (EST)]the gas station. "I've got to get that gas gauge fixed" he says as we pull up to the pump amongst the stares we get as people see this little Yugo with a full sized Ford on the back. We unhook the Ford and it rolls down off the ramps. I can almost hear the little Yugo give a sigh of relief. "So Mr. Hornsbey..." I start to say before he cuts me off. "Were not in school anymore, call be Bruce" he says while putting the gas nozzle into the fill pipe. "OK Bruce. So how far does your buddy live from here?" "Oh I'd say just about a couple of miles or so up the road. Not far." "OK, but I can't stay long because I'm on my way up north to pick up a truck, a '59' Ford and haul it back. Gonna be my new project. I just hope the little Yugo makes it." "Sounds like a nice project but your gonna haul a classic truck with that poor thing!" he says with a look of amazement. "Well, yeah. It's all I got." "Didn't you pay attention in class boy? You forget everything I taught you" he says jokeingly. "Horsepower! Means everything. Maybe my friend can help you out a little" he says as the tank tops off. He puts the nozzle back onto the pump and ratchets the gas cap back on, hops in his truck and says "follow me." Soon we are heading down a two lane road to his buddys house. We arrive at his friends house on the edge of town about 15 min. later. As we pull up the the house I am awe struck. Parked in this guys driveway is what looks to be a...
.........F-650 Super Crewzer, with the CAT Diesel making 800+ ft. lbs. of tourque, and 300+ HP. He has an 8 car trailer, but says we can just hook mine up to it, and he hands me the keys!!!!!!! He says, he ordered a new one, and for another 1000 dollars I can have it, his church told him he should use his money to make others happy. I go to the ATM and quickly extract the 1000, and tell him how greatful I am. Bruce tells me he's off to a concert at Carnage Hall, so I wave goodbye and head down the road in my new truck, that costs more than my house.....
>nobody ever adds to my stories...... I know it's cus I make
>everything complete (leaving myself open I know)
The key elliment "The 81 Yugo" was removed too early we all know the trip up to Yellowknife will go flawless in that truck.
So lets continue with !
As I was just about out of the driveway I was stopped by the guys twin brother holding 12 gages of muscle. He said son I know you want to make things right. After having a good laugh with Mr Hornsbey and his twin drinking pals. Mr Hornsbey asked me if I wouldn't mind him tagging along on my adventure.
With everything hooked up and us well rested we set out the next morning. Making our way north on I-35 after about 6 cramped hours in my 81 Yugo.(Did I mention Mr Hornsbey couldn't leave Lucy and Elwood his beloved St Bernarreds home alone) We pull into the first rest area after crossing in to fine state of.......
(since I'm unsure whether we're heading north or south or where for that matter this may not make sense)
.....Kentucky (the forgotten state lol) and the two twins pick up a nice bottle of Whiskey (flows like water in Kentucky says my stereotype), and I go to take a leak, and find it's one of those friggen useless rest stops with no toilets :-X23 so as I'm peeing between the car and the door (remember your dad making you do this when you were 3? or am i alone?) a beautiful women walks up behind me and says, "whatcha holding there"...... Did i fail to mention it's 20 degrees outside? "Appearantly not much," I say, "Due to the cold of course." She laughs and says she thinks I'm cute and wants to tag along. (I know, my minds in the gutter). We all hop into the car, I decide not to drive as she has to sit on someone's lap :7 and we head off down the road for another four hours, Bruce driving. When we arrive at Motel 6 in Ohio, me and the lady decide to get a seperate room from everyone else because.......
She doesn't want to shower after all those other guys. "what's with your friends?" she asked. "Well I don't know?" he replied. At the desk the bill is $500 because they ate the whole mini bar and had lots of room service. They get back on the highway...
