HELP!! Vavle or Lifter problem
HELP!! Vavle or Lifter problem
Yesterday when I started my truck I heard a steady click, click, click coming from the drivers side valve cover. She sounds like a sewing machine. By the time I got to work 16 miles the sound had gotten kinda loud. before I shut her off I walked to the front where my intake tube is and I could hear a low duwp, duwp, duwp.
Do I have a failed or stuck lifter?? Is there something I can try to get her unstuck?? A mechanic friend of mine told me to drain the oil and fill her back up with 3 quarts of rieslon and 9quarts of oil and run her a couple of days.
I hate to be without this truck, but I think I should get her to the shop.
Thanks for the input.

I could hear a low duwp, duwp, duwp. that would be normal.....air being sucked in...
I would remove the valve cover and check for: worn lifter rocker assy, pushrod or broken valve spring..........running solvents and things won't help anything when your guessing what's causing the noise........
How many miles on the engine....... could be a worn out valve guide. Remove the air cleaner and listen for a LOUD woof woof woof.....there is a normal intake suction noise but the compression from a weak valve spring, worn valve is much louder. Check the exhaust for a chuffing noise also, could be an exhaust valve.

Yeah, plenty of oil. I change it every 3,000. The engine only has 20,000 on a rebuild. I would take it to the guys that did it, but they are in Arkansas and I am in Florida.
Maybe the sound is woof, woof. It is not real loud, but I normally don't hear any think from my air intake tube. I will pull the vavle cover in the am. Then I will go from there. Thanks

Dad Dang Lifter Problem
So I removed the valve cover today. The first valve on the drivers side has a lot of slop in the rocker. about 3/16". I drained the oil and put the rislone and oil mixture in. I am going to try that for a couple of days. I will let ya'll know
If you did not look for the amount of wear on the rocker assy valve lever post... yours is probably worn out or very close to it.......and no lifter will recover from that. I think 35 thou is all our lifters will absorb/overcome.
