A.d.h.d Dog

How many dog owners have a dog that is so brain dead, That when you reprimand the little ******* he just picks his head up and smiles, like, are you yelling at me! Then he grabs his soccer ball and says with his eyes. Common daddy lets play. Everytime I yell at this dog he just smiles and dances around my feet. He's like a little kid that you want beat and hug at the same time. Anybody have one of these?

i had one when in high school, i think he had bad eye sight because he would bark at anything, even a leaf blowing he would try to get it like it was a mouse or something.

the dog was so dumb, but yet when it came to animal instincts he was extremly smart. he got a real good home when we moved.

all he ever wanted to do was play, no matter what the reason! and he would play until he could hardly move.

I have my sons dog at my house this weekend while my son is out of town. He acts like he has a.d.d. Either that or he is dumb as dirt. He doesn't respond to commands until you really jump him them he runs & hides. My dogs both respond to commands well. My new puppy is very smart & can be controlled by tone of voice. If you speak to him harshly he responds & usually doesn't repeat the offence for which he was corrected. He is one smart little guy. I got very lucky when I found him at the local rescue. He is one of those dogs that lives to please his owners. I'm already crazy about the little guy.

I thought that my Great Dane was retarded when he was younger. When he turned 2 he became the greatest dog I ever had. He became intelligent over night it seemed. It was just hard getting him out of that puppy stage.

My Queensland Heeler is insane. The dog will chase his tail, that he doesn't have, and since he can't catch it he gets mad and bites his rear, which makes him madder. He won't stop until I yell at him. Nutso dog.

My dog has been "hyper" since the day I got him, 3 years ago. He's very smart but will drive you up the wall with hisconstant moving and standing on you. That's his favorite thing to do- your layin in bed and he's standin on your chest tryin to lick your face till you pet him. CRAZY @$$ poodle!!!

I think that's little dog syndrome ag, I have a beagle that does the same thing, if you're laying down, he's standing on your chest with his all puffed up like some kind of victorious look on his face. Then comes the face licking, until you're covered with so much dog slobber you need a towel... I love the lil goof though, he's not a bad pup.

Dogs don't remember. So when you come home and find a mess and start yelling they have no idea why. Most dogs are like "OOH! ATTENTION!!! YAY!" when they get yelled at. A few like ours will cower (from being beat). NEVER hit your dog, use a can of pennies, or a belt folded in half, or a newspaper and your hand. Make a loud noise. You really need to catch them in the act to reprimand them. Also if the only time you pay and attention to them is when they do something bad, then they'll be a bad dog all the time. A dog thinks YOU as the owner are GOD and wants to be with you and as close to you as possible ALL the time. They live to make YOU happy. So by you coming home and yelling at him, then you only affirm this. Next time just don't even acknowledge that he's there. Walk on by, and ignore him. If he starts getting into thing then use the can, or newspaper (smack your hand NOT the dog). And tell him "NO!". If you have a petsmart in the area I suggest you take the beginner training course with him. It will help YOU more than the dog..

Thats good advice pfogle, I have had a few dogs in my time. This is the first one I can actually call stupid. This is the stray we adopted. I think all the time he was in the wild, he was chowing down on someones pot plants.

I don't believe in hitting my dogs. I correct them by scolding them if I catch them in the act of doing something wrong. I use a stern tone of voice & only use it when I correct them. I also praise my dogs for doing the things I want them to do. My dad taught me this method of dog training & it works great. Dad could train a dog & he was confined to a wheelchair. I know dog owners that beat their dogs. It makes me sick. By the time most owners hit a dog for doing something wrong its too late & the poor dog doesn't know why its being hit.I hate trying to pet a dog & see it cower because it thinks you may hit him.

I agree with pfogle. Dogs live in the moment. So, if we are going to correct a dog on something, it needs to right when it happens.

Dogs look at us their pack leaders. If we don't take a strong leadership position, the dog will. That's where a lot of dog behavior problems come from.

I bought "Cesar's Way" by Cesar Millan who is the Dog Whisperer on National Geographic Channel. Best $25 I have ever spent on my dogs.

A better book would be Jean Donaldson's "Culture Clash". There are many more books on how animals "tick" from much more recognized behaviorists, as well.

Sorry, I just don't agree with Millan's methods. As I recall, he has no formal education in animal training, and just goes on what he learned from (if I remember correctly) his grandmother.

He's just the latest "sensation".

Oh, yea, one more thing, he completely ripped-off the title "Dog Whisperer" from a legitimate behaviorist named Paul Owens.

Sorry, it's just my two cents.

I don't know his whole history. I do agree that he has no formal education in dog training but I can attest that it works better than anything else I have tried. Education is great but often hand on experience is the best. I like him because where he grew up, dogs tended to be wild so he got to see how theyacted in nature. Dogs, or any animal, are not naturally domesticated. We ade them that way. So he used his experience in seeing dogs in their natural habitat to create his methods.

As for where he got his name, it may have been used by someone else, I don't know.
