Anyone Running Powerservice?
Since every source avalable to me is selling low sulfur, I figure I should porbably be running some sort of fuel lubricant supliment. I tried ATF($$), and two stroke oil, but I was wondering if powerservice is worth trying. I can't be sure, but I think there was a slightly better performance in terms of fuel economy when I was running 2S oil.
Now I'm sure there are claims out there that some fuel aditive can increase fuel economy, but have any of you had any experience with this?
But I run #2 up here all the time. Never had a problem, even @ -30 degree's.
Hayes can be found at truck stops or IH dealers........

Well I guess I try will the stuff, its not very pricy, and with only 4oz per tank, what the heck.
The truck already runs like a top, and drives like a beast since I put the turbo in, but I don't want to deal with premature injection system wear.
It has also been stated several times on this forum, to fill your fuel filter with it as you change it.

Let's do the math; 19 gal x 128 oz per gal = 2432 ounces of fuel
divide that by 4 ounces and you're mixing it at a ratio of 608:1
To raise cetane 6 points or for injector & pump cleaning PowerService recommends mixing it at 200:1 (3 times more than you're using). To raise cetane 3 points and for regular pump & injector lubrication the bottle recommends a mix ratio of 400:1 (1.5 times what you're using).
I mix mine at 1 ounce per 3 gallons which is 384:1 (3 x 128 = 384).They don't actually sell it by the gallon around here - it comes in a 96 ounce (3 quart) bottle that costs $15.20 + $1.34 in sales tax at WallyWorld.
At $16.54 for 96 ounces the cost is 17.23 cents per ounce, and since an ounce treats 3 gallons I figure using PowerService adds 5.75 cents per gallon to my fuel costs. At less than 6 cents a gallon I'll have to burn 10,435 gallons of fuel to equal the $600 cost for a set of reman injectors & a pump.
At an average of 15 mpg that would mean driving over 155k miles before I'll spend as much on PowerService addative as I would on a pump & injectors.
Seems like pretty cheap insurance to me, so yeah, I use it.....

I don't actually measure it. I have it down to 3 'Glugs' and I can get about 6-7 tankfulls out of a 1 quart bottle.
I think some peeps are waaaaay over reacting with the ULSD. The refiners are saying that the lubricity package added to the fuel is actually more slippery than LSD. Seeing as the DB2 pump uses Viton seals, and our Inj's have NO internal seals. The only thing that can be effected by the lower sulfer fuel is the return o-rings. Which are easily maintained.
I've NEVER had a problem. I've been useing ULSD all winter.

Having had the pump fail just a couple of months after buying the truck from a PO who DIDN'T use addatives, I did the math and came to the conclusion that I didn't have much to loose by using it and mixing it at the ratio recommended on the bottle....
