What can i do to get more MPG I only get 12 on the highway were my buddy gets 16-18 he drove 860miles with a 55 gallon tank I have the same tank and only get 660 when the light comes on ?
Make, Model, year, gear ratio, mileage, towing? would help to get you an answer, unless your just here to bitch about it. BTW my 5.4L super duty gets 19.5mpg on the interstate
If I'm lighter on the MPH on the highway, I'll see about 15-16 (not towing) on my '03, and that's an FX4. If I get a heavier foot and keep it up around 80, I'll see around 13-14.
Also, unless I misread your post, it kinda looks like a mis-comparison. You said your buddy gets 860 miles out of a 55 gallon tank, and that's about right. But you said you only saw 660 when your light came on. That's not the same. On a 55 gallon tank, you probably got another 100 miles of freeway driving after that light comes on. That would make your actual mileage something more like 13-14, which is more realistic if you've got a heavy foot.
That's likely the biggest part of your problem. Might want to see how your milage improves if you slow down to 70. Not as fun, granted, but more economical.
When the light comes on is less important than how much fuel you pump in to the tank. 660 miles on 55 gallons = 12MPG. But I bet the tank was not empty.
As mentioned in the other thread take it to dealer and have him reprogram the onboard computer (reflash)

With 24k, you might still see a slight gain in a few more thousands of miles. Try using the pump calculation, I bet you will see better mileage than assuming the tank is empty.
You might want to pick up the latest issue of Diesel Builder magazine - they used an '04 6.0 to see what a new exhaust, etc. did for mileage... but they tested it at 67MPH, not 80. I mean, think about it - our trucks are bricks in the wind and weren't designed for high-speed cruising. I've done it, sure, like when I drove back to MD from CO for Christmas - I rolled at ~78MPH and got a bit over 16MPG. Last week I rolled at ~68MPH 18MPG but that was all highway too.
Everyone will tell you the same - slow down or it will (literally) cost you. Good mods will help some but a heavy foot will stomp on your wallet too.
No just 18k worth of accessories/mods. The latest update to my tuner was suposed to pick up 10% and the valvebody helped aswell as royal purple. I was travelling from valdosta to Daytona bch almost no hills.
I filled up both my sd and my recently. We had some cold days so that meant some extended idle time getting the ice and snow melted/cleared off plus winter blend gas.
all city driving...
03 F250 with v-10 got 7 mpg (I did my best to keep my rpm's under 2 grand)
97 Exdpie with 4.6 got 10 mpg (my wife drove 90% of the time and she's very light on the throttle)
I decided to forget and just drive like II usually do. LOL Same bad mileage but more fun.
Jeez, in my truck I WAS getting 13.7 mpg, but that dropped to about 12.5 the last 4 tanks or so. I think some junk fuel enhancer I bought may have gummed up my injectors or something, just changed fuel filter (black!) today, hope that helps....
