I recently cracked the passenger side mirror cover of my 06 FX4 and it seems I have to replace the whole assembly. Can anyone recommend a good quality chrome mirror cover that I could fit, or am I wasting my time and better off just shelling out the bucks and replacing it ?
If it's the "skull cap", upper section of the mirror (the section that is chrome w/ the Lariat chrome pkg or painted w/ the King Ranch pkg) you should be able to buy just that piece of plastic separately. Emphasize should, I've had a chrome drivers side on order for a week and a half and have yet to see it.
If it's any other section of the mirror, you're replacing the whole thing like you're thinking.
The aftermarket chrome "covers" I've seen are rather ugly in my opinion. They looked like they were bubble gummed on.

I like my chrome stick-me-ons... ever fall off i can just take that wad of gum outta my mouth and stick 'em back on...
anyways, the fit on my putco's are almost perfect. the tape is very thin behind the mirrors, and shouldn't stick out or anything. 3m makes a great brand of tape that really doesn't reflect "bubblegum" imo.
