chrome mirrors

Does anybody know if you can get the factory chrome mirror covers for the 06 superduty or do you have to buy the whole mirror?

What brand are they? Do they just go over the top or do they replace the cover like the factory ones do?

you can get the ones that cover your factory mirror housings from PUTCO. or you can spend more than double and get the actual cover that is chrome and you have to remove the factory cover to install the chrome part.

atvraptorman....I know our mirrors come apart, but when I wanted the chrome covers for my '05 Excursion..the dealer said that the chrome part was not available by itself.

I got the Putco ones that slip over..they look factory and are nice quality. They are chrome plated plastic.

FWIW, the Ford parts are not "chrome" either. They are also plastic that is plated to look like chrome. Meaning...neither the Putco or Ford parts are real chrome plated steel.

bneafus...check the fit on those plastic door handle covers first. At leaast on my Excursion...that uses the same handles as your SD..they do not fit correctly. The two pieces bind, and I have seen several trucks in my area where theya re coming off.

There is a piece that covers the "paddle", and another that is like a bezel. They catch when you pull the paddle out. It may be due to tolerance in the handles themselves.

Thanks for the headsup!! Any ideas of other brands that might be better?

Glad to help! I tried and tried to make them fit my truck, and wound up painting a set body color to get rid of the cheap looking black plastic ones it came with.

There is another brand, I think TFP that are stainless. I know a guy that put them on his SD, and they too are pulling off and catching. I guess it has much to do with the way the paddles go inside the bezel.

Smile chrome stuff.

i have the tfp ones on my X. they are polished stainless. i had to make them fit a little. matt, your correct, the handle is tight fit between the bezel. i had McElroy's auto body take care of that. there is a brand, cant remember, that the make full billet handles that replace the factory handles. like over $100 each handle. i also called ford today and my cost, the chrome factory covers are $98. each. they cant be installed on the non-lighted mirrors. new mirrors are $196 each and come without any covers on them. black covers are $76 each. check out my gallery for pics of chrome stuff. P.S. hey Matt...
