New Cops

I'm changing out my COPS along with the plugs. Putting on a set of GRANATELLIs COPS and some IT-16 DENSO IRIDIUM Plugs from Troyer Performance. Is there anything special I should be doing to ensure that the plugs are seating into the boot housing and making contanct with the plug connector in the boot?

The reason for the change out is, I washed my motor the other day. Sprayed it down with some Simple Green and waited and then rinsed off the motor. Let vehicle sit all day in the sun and breeze. Started the vehicle and BAM it sounded like Shiza and was running like Shiza too. Check Engine light started to flash like it was out of control. Pulled code and found a P0301. Since vehicle has 93K on. It seemed like changing out all the origanal COPS and plugs was a good thing to do.

I would only stick to motorcraft plugs for your Expedition, the truck tends to be very picky about plugs so just stick with motorcraft product. I read on many occasion on the forums of people using other brands of plugs and they blew 'em.

Nothing special.. I usually put a very light coat of dielectric grease on the end of the boots. You'll notice the contact is "spring loaded" and does not click into place over the plugs, like traditional wires do. If the coil fits in place, flush against the bolt-hole with little or no effort, then you are good to tighten it up.

When you install these plugs, be very very careful not to crossthread them. The heads on these motors only have a couple of threads in them to begin with, so it's possible to crossthread the plug all the way down and it will seem tight, until a couple months down the road when they blow out. Use a piece of vacuum hose to thread the plugs all the way in by hand, then tighten with a socket. I also strongly recommend a thin coat of anti-sieze on the threads of each plug.

As far as your choice of plugs go, let us know how it works out. Personally I'm not a big fan of performance tune up parts, unless you've got the engine built accordingly. Usually it's a waste of money and can sometimes actually hinder performance, but I don't know what your particular setup is so I'm not going to critique.

Good luck!

Here is another link to changing out Plugs and COPS

My new coils are look like this: http://www.rpmoutlet.com/musv8wgf.htm

The question, I have is that the coil is sitting up the head about ¼ o an inch or so. I didn’t hear or feel a pop, like you would feel when you connect the plug to the plug wire.

Are new COPS usually sitting that far up or do they fit just like the OEMs? Should I lube the new COPS to slide into the Cylinder Head to include the plugs??

Well, finished the install today. Vehicle started right up no more flashing service engine light. Vehicle idled fine and drove very nice. Everything seems to be in order.

Those last two plugs on the passenger side were a B******** . I hope these last another 92K.

Glad everything worked out! How long did the job take? Was it easier or harder to complete than you expected? Did you notice any difference in power and fuel economy?

The job went fairly quick, a few hours. I just went slow making sure that I didn't screw something up. The driver side went really quick. The front two on the passenger side just as quick. The last two on the passenger side .

But, all in all it is what I expected. I printed off those instructions from the two sites and it was very easy to do.

I do noticed a better or smoother idle. The power is there too. Fuel economy went back up also. All in all very pleased with the results.

Now I also changed out my trans fluid too so I have all new filters and fluid 16.5 quarts into trans. Very easy job too. Hardest part was getting that little plug in the Torq Converter to come around. Once I got it. Done.
