Reverse beeper?

So on my new truck, on the dash i have a button for what I think it is a reverse beeper. On my rear bumper I have a few black sensors? I think they are sensors anyways. But each time I turn it on, and put the truck into reverse, there is no beeps or anything, and the button automatically switches to off. Im not really concerned about it either, just curious.

Those reverse sensors are to sense if you are going to hit something. They will beep and apply the brakes when engaged.

Thats neat, not like I would ever use it though, and maybe someone unhooked mine too then.

No sure on all of them, but my mother in law's expy would apply the brakes. I'll ask her if her new Edge does it as well.

mine does not apply the brakes, mine is always on and i have to push the button to turn it off, then when i take it out of reverse it turns itself back on, only starts beeping when i get to about 4 feet from anything behind me, beeping gets quicker around 2 feet and a solid beep at about 1 foot and under between my bumper and whatever is behind, it also gives me 3 beeps when i'm backing up over parking blocks when i'm a few feet from them, works real good where i work for when i'm unloading into the front of the building

I think it turns itself on when yo go into reverse, maybee you are turning if off when you hit the button when you think you were turning it on. Just an idea not trying to be rude or anything, I just know in my mom's nissan that is how it and and it drives me crazy when backuping up with a trailer with it.

I'm with Pop on the braking thing. That could create some interesting situations when backing up with a trailer.

That is correct. The button turns it off (or at least, the audible warning) for when you have a trailer or the tailgate is down. But it only turns it off for that time your trans is in R.

talked to my bud that sells cars to the in laws. the edge has the sensors, but are strictly audible. the EB expy she had before was setup to apply brakes at 1ft before impact. It was an option that would have to be disabled when towing.

I thought about installing the audible ones on my truck, but think they just might be more of a pain.

I usually wouldnt put it past me to be doing it the wrong way, but Ive tried it a few different times, a few different ways, and it just doesnt seem to work! Its ok though, I dont think I would use it anyways. Good to know what it is and does though!

rollerstud discribed it right. I ordered them on my 02 and didnt know how I would like them, but after 5yrs I love em. Its amazing how lazy you get backing up and not really looking hard at what is behind you. The biggest pain is tall grass and snow, but you get use to it.
