I have a 1980 Ford F150 ranger that is an automatic 4x4 pickup. The other day I was changing the front tires on it. When I went to jack-up the right side, I didn't have the jack centered right and the truck slipped off the jack after the wheel was 3-6 inches off the ground, thank god the lug-nuts were not loosen to much yet. Anyways after I got the tire changed I took the truck for a ride and that is when I discovered my screw-up. The auto-transmission did not want shift thru any of the gears in auto. But if I would manually shift it, it would shift between 1st and 2nd fine, but between 2nd and 3rd sometimes it would and sometimes it wouldn't shift. I am not certain what is causing this, so anything that you guys can think of to help me solve this problem I would appreciate.
Check your vacuum lines, and especially the one that goes from the back of the intake manifold down to the rear of the tranny. It should have a vacuum line near the tailshaft area too.
Ok found the vaccum line at the transmission had a big crack in it, can I cut it off, cause the crack is right were it hooks into the trans mission or do I need a new line??
That's your judgement call. If one end cracked, it must be old and the rest of it is probably at the end of it's useful life. But if it looks ok, you can certainly cut it off and try it.
