Hello all, My dad isn't too good at searching forums and stuff so I told him I'd check around. He has a 1994 Econoline 250 Super cargo van with the 351 V8. This truck has been a workhorse since the day he bought it in November 93. Well recently he reached a milestone.. He rolled over 400,000 miles.. original stock motor.. He pulled out the old digital camera to take a picture of the digital odometer at 399,999 then inched her forward a bit only to be greatly disappointed by looking at an odometer that said 300,000 miles on it again. Other than the bragging rights being erased, this brings up other concerns on a more important level. Odometer descrepencies for insurance purposes, state inspection, etc. Being that this is a company fleet truck, those kind of things are documented pretty well. My question is, what can be done.. can the odometer be serviced by a tech? Is it something in the computer's programming?? It's a digital odometer I would think it would be able to count all the way up to 999,999 before zeroing out or what not... any advice?

I moved your question to the van forum for you.
A couple years ago I worked on a mid 90's van that had 1.3 million kilometers on it. The odometer went back to 0 after 999,999 and then it started over again.
The mileage reading is stored only in the instrument cluster and not in the van's PCM (powertrain control module or computer).
There are companies that do warranty work on Ford instrument clusters, for Ford, but I don't know if they would work a retail job. Your local dealer may be able to contact the place that repairs clusters for them.
There is nothing that a normal tech at a Ford dealer, or wherever, can do to change the mileage or reprogram the odometer.
hmm.. So it does sound like something wrong with the programming of the odometer? 999,999 resetting to 0 would be expected.. 399,999 to 300,000 I didn't expect.. We'll see what the dealer says.. I would think it would be hard to write up "mechanical limitation" on a digital odometer.. thanks.
The '94 cluster and the '98 cluster are different. The '94 cluster only reads to 300k. Hold the "reset" button and turn the key on. You'll see that it's not a full digit for the 100k place. I think it should have turned over to 400k unless it wasn't programmed to go that high.
