i must say I love by bronco, but it is getting too expensive to drive. my bronc is getting 12mpg and it is costing me $60 a week in gas. gas prices are going up by the day and i do not want to park my truck. any ideas on how to improve gas mileage on my 302 EFI??

LAST EDITED ON 30-Apr-01 AT 01:35 PM (EST)[p]hey gas guzzler, i have a '90 302. don't know if your truck is stock but, mine has gotten better since i changed the stock air cleaner to a k&n supercharged system, also high flow cat, less restrictive exhaust, the jet chip helped a little, msd ignition also helped. all these things just help the motor run more efficiently, which gives you more power, which means you don't have to give it as much gas to do the same thing. also realize like i did too late that this motor in its stock form is under powered for this truck. also stay away from big tires since mileage seems to be your concern, if your truck's like mine your stock gears are 355's which does'nt help matters much. i changed mine to 410's and it makes a huge difference when you get the motor spinning up in the powerband where it should have been from the factory. anyway sorry none of these things is particularily cheap so you won't see the savings right away [or maybe you will if gas goes to $3 this summer. good luck p.s you could always get a broncoII just kidding

I have a 1994 Bronco with a 5 litre with a 5 spd. I only got about 11.5 mpg until I put a K&N filtercharger on it, then a flowmaster cat back exhaust and a set of March pulleys on it. Now I get about 14 mpg. And I drive with a lead foot every where that I go.

My wife has a 96 bronco xlt with a 5.8 and auto-od. Around town she gets 12-14 mpg and on the hi-way she gets 16-18 mpg. Of course when I drive it,which isn"t very often, I dont get near that good.With the 5.8,mass-air,and 3.55 gears,that thing fly's.I have a 94 broncoE.B.with a 5.8,speed density motor,and the same gears,but her's will smoke mine anytime,and I get about 9mpg intown and12-13 mpg hi-way.I also have a 89 bronco xlt with 5.0 and AOD-3.55gears,and P265x75r15 tires. On the hi-way I get17-19mpg at 68mph.with the cruise on.

Two questions!
Is your exhaust loud inside the vehicle? I put on a3" system and went threw many different mufflers. Also have a resonater installed. I just don't like the resonation (exhaust noise inside car). Any suggestions?

What exactly is March pulleys?
Thanks, Pete
