Bronco Towing questions...

I have a 1990 Bronco XLT with the 351W and an automatic transmission. I am looking at buying a boat soon. I know the Bronco can handle towing, but does anyone know what the max safe length of a trailer would be with the short wheelbase on the Bronco? Also, other then the hitch and mirrors, are there any other things I should look at upgrading (like a transmission cooler, etc.) before trying to haul anything? Thanks...

Bronco Towing questions...

I have a 94 that I tow a 21' 5000# boat with. My truck pulls the boat with no problems. My truck came stock with 265/75 tires on it and they where terrible for towing. I suggest you make sure you have Light truck tires as they will have stronger sidewalls. I also had to install add a leafs in the back to stop axel wrap. You may not have to do this depending on how much wieght your planning on towing but Broncos tend to have soft rear springs. As far as stability on the highway it's not as nice as my econoline van was but it's not bad. I would defenitly do the trans cooler thing it's not a bad thing to have even when your not towing.

I have the same (94 Bronco). I was wondering what your cooling temperatue was normal (not towing) at 50=55mph and at 65-75 mph. Also what it is towing and climbing steep grades. Thanks!
