i think i need to get my transmission rebuilt, it doesnt seem to get out of 3rd when i let off the peddle, and shifts hard from 1st. anyone hear of this before? what is a guess on a rebuild? its a 5 speed auto, 5.0l 4wd
It may not need to be rebuilt. I'm assuming it's an AOD? I would find a good trans shop and take it in and have them check it. As a rule a good shop won't charge you very much to look at it. Most if you have them do the repairs will credit you back any charge to inspect it.
Yer choices of trannys in '89 is the three speed C6 (PRND21) and the four speed AOD (PRN(D)D1). Possible chance of the tranny also being the four speed E4OD (PRN(D)21 with OD lockout button on the dash).
Report back with what the display is, or what the tranny code is on the door jam sticker, or how many pan bolts hold the pan on.
I just yanked mine today .On trip home last night I stopped and trans acted like it was stuck in first gear . but if gunned it it would shift till let off gas. If I would have taken truck in and the trans would have had to come out it is double cost of rebuilt for install. But if I take it out they check it a complete rebuild is only a little more than $800.00 to 1200.00. When its have truck hauled to shop ($$) or just take trans the savings is great. Hour 1/2 of my time to take out . But I think Fords rebuild have the best warenty now.
my just shifts hard from 1st to 2nd. it also seems like it shifts alot when its not needed. and it is like your running over rumble stripps on the road when i go between 35mph and 40mph.
