Extra reverse lights

I was going to hook up some lights on lunch today, have everything mounted, just need to know if anyone can tell me what wire to tap off of from the trailer wire harness? Hoping to wrap it up after work today, if not, there is always tomorrow. Thanks, and if I figure out how to post pictures, I will show the end result.

The trailer harness (factory 7-pin connector) should tell you the correct wire for back-up lamps. I wired in a lamp for mine a couple months ago, did not have the factory connector, found the correct wire with a 12v probe that you poke in the wire. Hope this helps.

Why not just tap into the reverse lights in your taillight, that way you can still hook up a wiring harness when towing and still have the reverse lights. But then again if you have a trailer hooked up you wouldnt see the reverse lights anyways.

Good answer..... haha

I was planning on splicing in, so I would still have the trailer light option ( if the trailer has reverse light ).

Thanks guys, I had left the manual at home, wanted to wrap this up before I got there.

Thanks John, by the way, saw your gallery, if a F-250, cap on, flashes his head lights at ya, you know why. I am about 8 mile south of you.. Didnt want to go that far yet, thats why I was just tapping to the wiring in the back.

diodes????...you dont need no stinking diodes....lol just tap into the trailer back up wire, its fused at 20 amps so it can handle 2-55 watt lights (in fact even more) and what ever back up lights would be on a trailer

It is the center wire for a 7 pin RV plug, the color is Black/Light Green stripe, Yellow is industry standard on trailer side.

Well, yesterday I hooked up the lights, adjusted it, everything was beutiful, this morning, got to work, some guy was in a ditch, backed up to him, put the truck in park, walked back and said" damn, wouldnt it be nice if I had a switch on those" at lunch, switch is complete.

The use of the diode is protect the existing circuit when you flip the switch on. Not sure you need it though, because the power source is the same, and there is a relay there. Have to check the book again when I get home.
