just as an aside to this thread, could weak/bad glow plugs cause the WTS light to intermittantly flicker while the truck is running or is that another problem to chase? gonna check the glow plugs and work on them anyway, but wondered if that would fix the WTS light.

Now at 50 degrees, it starts immediatly after the glow plug light goes off, just touch the key.

Thanks for telling me how to check the GP's, thats most helpful. Also the info on if the lines are grey replace. Motorcraft, beru, made in Germany it will be!

I've owned the van only for a short time, so I don't know if & or when the GP's were replaced.

Where do I look for the wait to start light. My GP light does work, & goes off when the clicking starts. Does an 86 E350 have a WTS light?

 

The three little red lights, not sure where thay are located in the E series should have the "Wait to Start" as the top light if they are laid out like the F series is.

On the glow plug relay, the side with the orange and white stripe wires on it should also have a black with pink stripe wire on it.
The black with pink stripe wire goes to the Wait to Start light in the dash.

This system is used on 86 and older trucks, has nothing in common with 87 and newer glow plug systems except for helping to start a cold engine.
