My friend has a late 02 F-250 7.3 L Diesel. It constantly has a severe whine coming from the power steering system. The stealership couldn't figure it out, any idea on how to figure this out and hopefully fix it?
My 99 SD did this. I removed some of the power steering fluid and replaced it with Lucas brand power steering fluid and stop leak. The whine went away almost instantly.

I had to have my P/S pump replaced after 3 years.
I had some ext warranty left and it was covered under warranty, $100 deductible. I have not any issues since.
Read this thread from the PSD section. You want to do what Kris says about flushing with Synthetic ATF. I've done it several times and it helps every time. I have a new pump on "the shelf" but have no reason to put it on, despite having over 200,000 on my factory pump...
I agree with the Synthetic ATF flush. I did this and installed a magnefine filter and it did wonders for my power steering. It seems like it did when new now.
