Thanks for all the info guys, I can tell this is a great group. Funny also to see some people from Washington, I'm originally from Redmond. Boy, what is it? That's the burning question. I actually haven't seen the truck in person yet and will pick it up saturday morning. I will try and post some relevent info so we can resolve this and get some sleep at night. Thanks

Number Dummy. No apologies required. We all are old and grouchy. Only you have much more info than the rest of us. Keep it coming. I now believe it is a F500. However I have been wrong before!

To give you guys a better idea of what I mean by "hot rod" I want to lower the truck as much as feasible or possible and paint the cab like the famous So-Cal Speed Shop push truck. Probably keep a flatbed. Eventually drop a sweet motor in it. Probably try and keep with the period. With luck it should look like an original So-Cal Hauler.

But who knows, the truck might just be an F350, and was ordered from Ford with special equipment. That info will also be on the VIN plate under DSO. Two digit DSO = Regular production; 6 digit DSO = Domestic Special Order

Ref to F500 refered to "at the very least" meaning that was the smallest model to have the equipment.

I apologize for being a PITA....I'm old and grouchy.
Hey Dummy: you are not a pain the the _ _ _!! I value your terrific knowledge and your resource books that you must keep at your fingertips!

Please keep informing us,

Want more pics of SoCal Speed Shops' truck?...socalspeedshop.com Their new shop is 15 minutes from me. Lowering that monster with that beefy frame and wheels will be a challenge. I'd look for an F100 instead.

I pulled some data from the 1956 ford truck facts dealer salesman brochures and it says that all 56 tires were tubless and that in the single wheel catagory they were 17.5X5.25 for two options and one more for the single was the 19.5x5.25 6 lug wheels

In the 350 dual wheel catagory they were all listed as 17.5X5.25 and it also notes the 6 lug wheels

For the F500's Tubless all were 22.5X5.25 except one it was 22.5X6.0 I also see that it lists the F500's with FIVE lug wheels

For the F600's rim size was 22.5x6.0 and 22.5x 6.75 and it states they were SIX lug

In comparison the 1955's listed show 16 and 17 inch for the F350's
F500's had tube type 20" wheels, and F600's were 20" also. ALL 55's TIRES were TUBE TYPE.

Anyone ever put or see a bed like this on an old Ford?

This one's more along the lines of what I'd like to put on:

55 f600 drop

I was wanting to drop my on my 55 f600 but they are telling me they don't drop axles the heavy. They can do a f350 but not a f600 are they that much heavier? Are the part numbers different?

Thanks Guys
George
