I'll keep it in check. I've not seen much improvements in my mpg, been pretty much the same since new. I am planning to change the glows in the near future and will change the orings as a preventive/corrective measure while under the covers. Thanks
Other than the consumption and mileage issue, any other way of picking up a potential problem with the orings?. I was just thinkng if they have been working since 99 and the complications reported with the ULS fuel, I hate to take the covers off twice. Thanks.
Uniform Oil Analysis, there are a couple of companies that do it Blackstone Labs is a sponsor and give a FTE discount
A UOA will look like my attachment, and give you an idea of whats going on inside your engine, by analyzing the trace elements that are left in the oil. this is an older UOA from last year, I have a current one from last month but I have already posted it in a thread and the forum won't let me repost it. see below
Hello Guys, I was wondering if I have a problem with my 99.5. I just returned home from a 3k road trip through the south pulling a heavy 5th Wheel (13k). Most of the trip was with pretty tall winds, and steep hills. My question is, is it normal that my truck use a quart of oil. I understand the trip was sort of tough on the truck in these conditions. A quart seems much. I am running the Rotella 5/40 Sync. The truck has 71k, no engine mods.
Thanks for any insite.
Mine burns 1 Quart every 2,500 miles regardless if I'm pulling or not. It’s done that from day one, truck has 264,000 miles on it now, Yours is normal!!

Thanks, I'll take FTE up on that. Just returned from the dealership, wife's 2002 Escape, developed a oil pan leak (only 8k). Had a second to speak with the Diesel/Tech. He seconds the opinions of you guys. The 7.3 will use oil and it's normal, all within reason of course. He also said somethig about diferant air systems (I thought he was speaking of the open air intakes) as they would also cause the engine to use a little more oil, got me. I'm staying with my 2818. Thanks for all the great info. Joe
