My wife has taken away my debit card after I got the 1963 enonoline I bought a 1968 F100 shortbed with a 302 3 speed to haul parts in, then I bought 4 straight six engines and put them into the back of the truck, needless to say i have spend my monthly car funds for the next 3 months, But on to my next question.
I want to put one of the bigger straight sixs( I got 170,200,250and 300)
would love to put the 300 with a AOD transmission but I know the 250 is the same class as the 170 but is 1.5 inches taller, will the 300 and 250 clear the dog house top, I am not worried about air cleaner, I am going to build a cold air intake
This is my first straight 6 project and anyone that has advice i am very willing to listen.
also, wife wants to paint the econoline like "scooby doo's mystery machine" waht does everyone think of that?

The 240 and the 300 are essentially the same engine. The 240 was available in later Econolines.
I have a 65 with a 300 out of a 73 F100. Fits in there just fine.
there are some differances in the 61-64 and 65-67 econolines, specificaly the dog house, floor at the rear of the dog house, belly pan, and motor and trans mounting points.
now with that said,it can be done! only thing is, it is as much work to put in a 240-300 as it is to put in a small block v8. it can be done, someone on here did it, but with out a donor vehicle, getting all the parts together is kinda hard.
you will need the motor mount crossmember for the big six, throttle linkage or cable for the big six, dog house and rear floor section from a 65-67, and then have to fab up a crossmember. not counting the correct brackets, engine mounts, radiator and hoses, wiring, and assorted other goodies.
The 240 and 300 fit very close to the rad. Like only a 1/4" from the rad. I like the 300's, but there is like Jimbare said, lots of work to change. So I'm staying with my 170 in my 64. A 200 will fit in, but the motor mounts may ahve to be moved on the mounting frame a touch I think.

It will soon be 2 people here who did it because I am putting a 240/C-4 out of a 67 into my 62.
I also have the 65 with a 300/C-4 as an additional donor car.
I also have a 65 that had a 289 in it that I am swapping with the mechanic for some of the work he did on another car. He is sort of learning on my van so that after he is done, he can pop another 289 in his van.
You can not even begin to add up the value of having 2 big 6/auto donor cars sitting right next to your project (especially when I paid $800 total for both parts vans, I have $400 in the 62). Whatever I don't use, the mechanic gets. Whatever he doesn't use goes on ebay. Already sold the 144 out of my 62 for $300, one of the bumpers for $100 and a fuel filler pipe for $25.
