Hi, I've got a 66 f100 stepside with a straight six 240. I thinking of changing the engine to a 300 six or maybe a 302 V8. Can anyone advise me or point me to a site that will? I want to do it as cheaply as possible and am considering buying an old beater that runs good but looks **** and taking the engine out and putting it in my truck. Can anyone tell me what vehicles would be suited for cannibalising?
If I'm not mistaking anything up to a 79 model will work on your truck. Maybe get you one with power steering, power brakes, tilt wheel, you know the good stuff, to where you can up grade your truck, as you go along. Why not buy it all at one time, if that's what you perfer to do. Ask as many questions as you need, there is always an answer to be found here...I also have a 66 stepside 390/30 over, with a C-6 trans, tilt wheel, fixing to add power steering and brakes as well...Good luck on what ever decision you decide to make, and as for a great site to find some info...my FRIEND you need look no futher than where your'e at....Welcome aboard.....
A 302 will bolt right up to the tranny. You need the flywheel and clutch assembly and engine perches and mounts for the 302. If you go automatic you'll need a tranny crossmember and flexplate also. If you change the tranny you may need to change the length of your drive shaft.
A 300 six will be a direct fit replacement and everything should bolt right up to it.
Good luck Rich.
