Any ideas on rebuilding/refurbishing the park light sockets up front? I have good bulbs and good wiring, but the sockets that the bulbs go into are in bad condition. Sort of rusty. The connectors are a little loose. All contributing to lights that work sometimes and sometimes they don't. Somedays thay work fine and are bright, other days they are very dim. I know it is a ground issue, but the problem is the socket itself. So any rebuilding ideas or tricks?
Your first choice is time or $$$$. Junkyard parts are cheap, especially if you do the labor. You have to invest time in tracking down parts that are better than what you have. On the other hand there are NOS parts that will be perfect, but will cost a lot.
If things are not rusted too badly, it is possible to shine up everything to get good contact. Sometimes a little solder in the right places will tighten thins up and sometimes a judicious squeeze with the pliers.
Is there a NAPA store near you? If so here's something you might want to try. Ask them to let you look at the Echlin catalog (forget the computer). They still list some metal light sockets and you may be able to match them up.
Thanks for the input. I will have to drop by NAPA this afternoon. Those old light soclkets are just work out I believe. Too bad LMC, NPD or any of the others dont offer new ones for our trucks.
