I love when people say "I get 300 miles to a tank, someone says me too, some one says, yeah, I only get 200" Ask all of them what size tank they have
"I don't know"................Well if you have a 30 gallon tank, then 300 miles is 10mpg, but you have know clue so your and idiot.
Not sure as to the context here, but I'm going to assume you are referring to those who think the tank size is how much fuel you burn when you have to fill up.
As stated before, some people have the incorrect assumption about calculating fuel economy. The way tylus and various others have stated is correct, and you have to use the amount of fuel you put into the truck, NOT the tank capacity when you calculate mileage, since you should NEVER run the tank dry.
I found out the avg mpg display max's out at 99.9 mph, but it will continue to calculate beyond what the display reads.
Coming home from skiing a couple weeks ago I reset the gauge at the top of an 8,000' summit. A few miles into the downhill, without touching the gas, the gauge read 99.9. It stayed there for another for anothere couple miles. When I finally hit an uphill/flat combo where I needed to give some gas It took almost two minutes for the display to drop. I was still above 50 mpg when I hit the valley.
By the time I got home the gauge was at 22.4 - but that was driving painfully slow, 62+/- for the 100 mile trip across the valley. Took me 20.1 gallons to fill up- saved me almost 3 gallons in a 374 mile trip. I make the trip 20+ times a season and it usually take 22.5-26 to fill up. 26 gallon fill ups usually involve lots of 4wd time.
Just calculated MPG on the last tank. I drive 4.5 mile trips, 4 times a day with a cold start each trip. Averaged 16 mpg. Ill take that all things considered.
I just did mine over a 300 mile trip that was 75% highway. I ended up with 17.62mpg. I thought that was decent. I kept it at 75 or below on the highway.
Oh yeah, long trips definitely net more MPG. 60 mph might have net you near 20. Of course on a real long trip 60 mph seems like forever getting there. My 4.2 standard cab 01 would do 20 mpg to Kansas City (about a 500 mile trip) average 70mph. If this 4.6 scab will come close to that I will be happy.
