I have a 65 4x4 CC. I have never been in another slick that i can recall. I need more leg room if that is possible, most of the time when engaging the clutch i turn the blinkers on. My truck has a 6" step from the door sill to the cab floor, Is this the norm? Im' 6'4" If there is a slick with more leg room i will be looking to buy one, sell mine/ trade, or whatever but i gotta have another slick. Thanks for any info
Trying to find leg room wont be easy. The average height of a full grown adult has increased a bit since the days our trucks were built. Not to mention it wasn't taken into concideration back then like it is today. There were crew cab trucks made back then but I haven't seen that many other then the occasional picture here and there. At 6 foot I have a similar problem with my left foot resting almost above the carpet end under the dash.
IMHO there are a few things that can be done to your truck to add an inch or two. One is to replace the current steering column with a tilt one. I placed a couple of blocks under my seat rails to give it a little more leg room since I can't change the steering column without some major changes to the steering. Then there is also relocating the gas tank from behind the seat to the bed somewhere. This will allow for you to slide the seat back a tad. You can also change the hieght of the pedals but this may add more strain to the linkages or not allow them to work properly if not done correctly. I have seen some pretty good panel splicing and bed cutting to add 4 inches to the length of the cab. Read very labor intensive and a lot of $$$ to do this cab modification. Just a few ideas for you to think over before you jump in.
Sorry to have to convey to you that you have what you have. The newer trucks have much more room than the older ones. I can imagine that being 6-4 you have encountered cramped space regularly.
Your factory 4X4 used the 61-64 cab, thus the reason for the step.
Your clutch pedal may be to high. I just fixed mine. There should be a stop mounted to the pedal arm to stop excessive travel upwards. Look at the bracket above your brake pedal.
My clutch pedal was about 1.5" above my brake pedal, it is now even with it.
Edit: This helped me alot with my leg room. I'm 6'2ish and 250ish.

66 POJ..he can't do anything with the pedals, here's why....
Those CC's were made from the earlier 1961/64 cabs. Yes, they look identical to 65/66, but there's a BIG difference inside. The brake and clutch pedals are 1961/64 style (entirely different design than 65/66) and are higher and the pedal pads themselves are much wider and longer than the ones in the later 65-66 cabs. The steering column is at different angle. There's not much you can do unless you either move the seat back or change seats to something with 6 way power...very do-able with a CC. I wish I had a CC. My 65 sits undriven now (I'm 6-5 335 lbs) because while I fit in it OK in 1965, when I bought it, now I'm 42 years older, and gimpy.
Are you aware of how rare the 65-66 CC's are? Very few were made, and the first batch wasn't even made by Ford. Ford shipped the trucks to someone (forget who) they cut the cabs and they fabricated all the parts. The later Ford made ones have a different roof line and the upper rear door window frames are different. Those trucks were not cataloged or in any brochure, but were special ordered for the military (the USAF bought quite a few), American Airlines, and the US Forest Service. Someone also bought some in white. Even though I worked for Ford dealers as a partsman from 1962, I had never heard or seen one of them till I was in South Dakota in 1988. There was one parked near the Needles in the Black Hills. I was so amazed, I almost drove off the road.

Bill, any idea of a good year to get a six way power seat out of ? And if the slicks without the 6" step have more room? Is the undriven 65 for sale Thanks
I added rarity comments to the post above. My 65 isn't for sale...I did a frame off resto on it in the 1980's after I bought it back. I traded it off in 1968 for a new F250. I ran the VIN in 1981, the truck was in a creek bed in Felton CA...it was a mess. I turned down 15K last year. It's the best one in the world...everything mechanical was replaced with NEW parts except the engine block and the rear end housing. I have over 20K in it.
You'll have to do some looking at the later seats from the F Series trucks. Prolly go with the split seats from a newer one. Measure first, most will fit the earlier models.
I doubt you'd want a regular cab..cramped city...even with different pedals, a flat floor to the edge of the door, better steering column angle, you'll still be a tight fit.

All the 61/64's have that step. The 65/66 F350's have them too, but the 1965/66 F100/250's don't. The floor of the cab is flat right to the door sill.
My bad NumberDummy, thought CC was Custom Cab, guess you guys are typing about Crew Cabs, right? I'm not at all familiar with these and should step away from the 'puter and let you guys come up with a solution.

WHOA!..you may be right. When I saw CC I naturally assumed it was a Crew Cab, never seen Custom Cab refered to as a CC....Hmm..I even typed a history of the 65/66 Crew Cabs...guess he didn't catch it, and the 4X4's have the same cabs, with that sill...I was so concentrsted on the Crew Cab, that I didn't think about the 4WD's using the same 61/64 cabs...
If it is a 2 DOOR Custom Cab, even changing the seats won't help.
I figured CC was Custom Cab because the crew cabs are so rare and only heard of a few on here being discussed. I do like the look of them but would rather have a "M-100" myself.
Sorry guys it's custom cab, crew cab never crossed my mind. I did adjust the clutch pedal height, thanks poj. So now that were on the same page you dont think there is much i can do huh bill?

You want a 1961-66 with legroom, the only one made with that possibility is the CC Crew Cab, otherwise you're in the same boat as I am...SOL.
