First I'd like to say that driving post 73 vehicles in California sucks!
Moving on, the smog pump has an irritating sqeal/whine to it. I sprayed a little WD40 around the pully while it was running and the noise stopped quick. But then it wore off after a little driving time and continues.
Someone told me that this means the pump is going out and I should replace it before it siezes up on me. Is this noise a legitimate symptom or is there some way to lube it up?
Thanx.
How many miles are on your pump? I've known of one to lock up after about 185K. Mine is just starting to squeak on my '85 after 143K.... I'll probably replace it (I believe I priced one at the local discount auto parts store at around $55.00). I listened to another accessory make noise for months, while not seriously trying to isolate it, before I had my power steering pump lock up on me in traffic!
