2004's are known to be lean from the factory. Do some searching and you'll find this and probably suggestions on the fix. Or maybe I read this on f150online, don't remember. But there is a known lean issue with the 04's with CAI's.
I removed a CAI system from a super charged lightning the other day. He kept having CEL problems. After removing it I put the filter up on end and left it sitting on the shop floor for an hour. There was a LARGE puddle on the floor. When people SOAK the filter like that they are asking for failure. Thats why so many companies are turning to dry filters now.
I ended up working with airaid and they sent me a second generation air intake tube. I think a lot of the problem is how the tube runs the air through the Mass air flow sensor. I first would want to ask you if you disconnected the battery prior to you installing the air filter. This is a must it will read a problem because you just increased the airflow with out resetting the computer. Try it a second time, you also need to make sure there are no air leaks, If you have an air leak it will kick a check engine light also. If you cant get both of those to work call the company and see what they say.
You can always get a different system but buy it from somewhere you can return it if you have the same prob. Go with a big name, volant or K&N.
My buddy put one on his hemi and those trucks you have to do a manual reset of the ecm. its a weird step by step procedure he read on dodgetalk.com. and he hasent had a code yet. has anybody everheard of a procedure for the fords ecm???
nope. unplug the battery for about an hour. then hook up back up. I had forgotten about doing that.
good catch
I thought resetting the codes in the ECM was doing the same thing. I have done it twice now just to get rid of the light. I drove it twice last night after clearing the codes, and no CEL so far. It seems to only do it under very light acceleration under very certain conditions. I was told my Edge that they can't help me, but they have heard of F150's doing this when CAI are added...and they said that guys are simply moving the intake tubes around to change the position of the MAF meter and then had no trouble after that. I might try that. But do you guys suggest I disconnect the battery?? I honestly thought resetting the ECM with an OBDII scanner was good enough. Maybe not?? Thanks for all the input guys...I guess I got quite a discussion going about this...lol

I thought that resetting the codes did the same thing? Maybe not. I have reset my codes twice now just to get rid of the light. I drove it twice last night after resetting for the 3rd time, and no CEL yet. Edge e-mailed me back saying that cannot do anything for fear of leaning out the engine, they don't wish to mess with MAF meter settings (can't blame them). But they DID say they have heard of us having this problem, and some guys are moving the intake tubes around to re-position the MAF meter, and then the problem goes away. I might try that. But you think disconnecting my battery might just do it? Thanks for all the input guys...I got quite a discussion going here I see..lol
well resetting the obd2s with a scanner i dont think is the same thing as unplugging the battery. it might be though. im just going out into the deepest part of left field and i mean wayyyy deep out when i say i think that when u unplug your batt the computer basicaly doesnt have any referanced anymore to compare all the sensors to and when you hook up the cai for the first time and then run the engine a new set of paerameters are there and the ecm takes those and usses them for a reference. again i might be just making stuff up cause it sounds good but who knows. im getting a cai this fri and we will see if everything goes right
