I believe the largest size speaker you can fit without any modifications is a 5 1/4" in the doors, and a 5 x 7" in the rear. However, with a little bit of sheet metal cutting, you can fit 6 1/2" speakers in both the doors and the rear. IMO, this is the way to go. The deck is a single din unit, which means you should be able to upgrade it with just about any stereo out there.
I think that fast-eddy is correct. You could get away with 6x9's in the rear, but would have to manufacture a bracket. The current 5x7's are held in place with a metal bracket. I have been contemplating replacing the rear speakers, and I happen to have a set of 6x9's around. I have just never got around to doing it.
The back speakers are 6X8's it will be real hard to put a 6x9 in there without major mods. I'm told that Infinity makes an excellent 6X8 that will go right in. For some reason I believe that the fronts are also 6X8's. Check out WWW.Crutchfield.com they have a good application guide that lists everything you could want to know(not only speaker sizes but things like mounting depths)
I've seen on this forum that guys have created an adapter out of plywood that allows for the mounting of the traditional (and more readily available) 6 X 9 speakers in the rear.
Essentially you mount the 6 X 9s to the plywood ring and then mount this plywood ring to the factory mount.
A while back there was a picture of this ring I refer to on this site.
Any idea of where to find the pictures? I get the idea, just wondering how thick the plywood would be. How much it would extended from the edge of the speaker itself?
The front door speakers are 6.5 and the rear factory brackets and speakers are 6x8. You can use almost any depth speaker in the front doors but the rear can be tricky if you want to add 6x9's. You need to mount your own new bracket if you want a 6x9, its not worth the hassel of trying to make one out of plywood. For about $20.00 you can buy a plastic one that works just fine. The SS69 will work if use some long screws. http://www.scosche.com/scosche/speakers/adapters.asp.
Another company called Metra makes the kits also. Your local stereo shop will have one of the two. Part # 82-6900
