-Howdy all
I want to know if it is possible to swap in an EFI 351 in place of my '90 302 EFI. What would this engine swap involve, and would the tranny/t-case have to be changed too? Has anyone done this swap I could talk to.
-If so let me know
-Any info is appreciated
Also I was just wondering, a buddy told me that 302 v-8s have a different fireing order that makes then rather quiet when run with straight-thru exhaust -cause I put a glasspack muffler on my '90 302 and it sounds the same as it did with the stock muffler ,has anyone else heard of this?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Dec-01 AT 09:25 PM (EST)]I personally haven't done this swap, but you would need the engine(obviously), the entire engine wiring harness(from the plug in for the computer through the fire wall and to the other end of the wires), and the computer from the same truck/van as the engine came out of(very important). Your trans and x-fer case will bolt right up to a 351. So will all your accessories(h20 pump, power steering pump, ac compressor etc...) If you have a manual trans., you'll need to get the engine and computer from a donor truck that also had a manual trans. If you have an auto, I would try to get an engine with the same trans that you have now. I.E. if your bronco has an E40D now, I would try to find a donor truck that had an E40D. If you have a C-6, I'd look for a donor truck with a C-6 whether you use the donor truck's trans or not...Other than some new engine mounts I think that that would be all that you need....all this is off the top of my head, so I probably have forgotten something..
Oh yeah, if you have to pass emissions, make sure that the swap is a newer engine into an older vehicle. (say if I put a 1985 351 into a 1980 Bronco, then it could be cool with the inspection station, but if I put a 1980 351 into a 1985 Bronco, then they'd have to fail me...)
About your exhaust, if you still have both cats on, then it won't get much louder than stock no matter what you do. If you get some "free flowing" ones then it will sound a little better. It sounds best with out cats at all, but that's kinda illegal...
Good luck with the swap...
