It seems a tha a lot of the rebuilt alternators are actually for gas engines that have a higher idle RPM. Our diesels idle much lower which is more than likely the cause of the headlight dimming affect some have experienced. If the batt light is flickering or on and the truck starts fine, I would definately start at the alternator. I ordered one of ebay as a preventative maintenance thing. Once I pulled the original off, I could definately tell the bearings were starting to wear. So now I have the original as a backup if I ever need it.
