HI Guys, I wanted to ask if any of you use HVLP. I just bought a GRACO 4900 and i like using it far more than conventional set up. I have ben a Painting Contractor for 13 years + and a painter for 25 years (mostly residential homes)
When I first started painting guys I worked for had WAGNER HVLP stuff and I hated it. When I started my own Biz I bought Binks model 18 and 2 Gallon pot with 25ft of spray line and 2 regulators, Nice set up But I would have to wait for the compressor to build (I am not painting cars SO not a big deal). I was faced with buying a new compressor late last year and insted bought the graco 4900
I think i made a good choice. I can't wait to paint my Truck with it.
Is that Graco a turbine system or an actual airless ? If it's an airless, I'd be curious to see just how it did on an automotive finish, since I've never seen one done that way and have no idea of the results.
If it's a turbine system, I'm a big fan of those. Lightweight, portable and very efficient, more efficient than the best HVLP guns on the market using a conventional compressor based system.
Yes it is a turbine set up. works great it came with 4 different needles and tips for different kinds of paint. The only draw back is the one qt cup,I used it to do a Stain and Lacquer package on a 5,ooo,ooo.dollar house in the foothills. The house will be in the Tucson Lifestyles mag in the next few months. I think I get a mention, Who did the work. We used Valspar 20% sheen Pre cat Lacquer, I am not a big fan of Valspar But there lacquer is very good.
The only heads up is that supposedly the modern auto paints are specially
formulated for HLVP guns. I do not know if this is just bogus but this is
what some folks say. It may be partially true in that this refers to
environemental stuff and not necessarily the quality of the paint job.
The thrust of the whole HVLP is to cut down on VOC's or volital organic
compounds. In some states the collision shops have to keep a record
of what they use and are limited to their VOC emissions.
Depends on the system, I think his might work. I know Lexair and Accuspray models are designed for automotive and they work incredibly well, 3 psi cap pressure with almost 90% transfer rate.
