I'm looking at a '97 F150...Triton 4.6L. It has a 4" suspension lift on it, 35's, and 80K mi. The only thing I'm concerned about is the fact that it has the 4.6L in it. So I'm thinking about slappin' on a Kenne Supercharger. Does this sound worth it or should I look for the 5.4L? Any advice would be appriciated! Thanks-
I bought the same truck 4x4 new in 97. Take it from me. It is not enough power. It's barely on the edge. You think your going to save money on gas saved...not worth it.
Get a more powerful truck!!!!!!
Honestly I have almost the same truck. 6" inch lift, 35in tires and the 4.6. It really all determined how you have the differentials geared. 3.55 you'll want a bigger engine. 3.73 you're on the edge. 4.10 and you be happy with it. I have enough power to pull my boat in OD on flat roads and running empty on the highway i can make 16 to 17 mpg.
Jbro is right the truck will do fine as long as you have the right gears in the diff's. If you have the factory gears in with 35 in tires you will have the feeling that the truck is way underpowered. 4.11's will be ok but with 35's i would suggest 4.55's or 4.88's. If you are getting a good deal on the truck and have some money to spare, most shops charege about 500 to 700 dollars to buy and install gears per differential. Putting the lower gears (higher numerically) will also put the driveline RPM's back to factory specs as if to have the oem size tires on it as well. I hope this helps you out.
Do you guys have any pics of you lifted 97's-98 F-150's? I'm in the middle of deciding on if I should get mine lifted or not? Also, what size tires and gears did you use? Please E-mail me at jessesmustang(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
The 4.6 is a good engnine with tons of potential. All the mustang performance parts practically work on it. If you rev it a bit more than most people are used to on truck V8s it performs quite well! A supercharger would be a great idea!
Mine is getting a tad bit high in the mileage (155k), if it ever goes and I put a new (4.6l!), I'll go with a mild supercharger...
