4.6L 1999 F150 opinions
I'm thinking about buying a newer truck. My current a 92 F150 with a 5.0 still runs fine and I'll keep it but it's time for something newer. I've found a 1999 F150 Supercab 4x4 with a 4.6L that looks interesting.
I don't know squat about the reliability of the 4.6L. I did a forum search and found a lot of posts about the 4.6 but am still looking for more info if anyone has any to share.
The truck I'm looking at has 99K miles but it looks to be in primo condition.
Your thoughts and ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks, just went and looked and drove it. Sounds and looks good. I don't haul or tow much of anything. Now if we can get right on price we'll do okay. This is the truck I'm looking at it just seems like he's got it priced a little high.

The 4.6 In my experience is a very reliable motor, I think most guys on here will agree. Mine has taken alot of abuse (not from me) and still runs really nice (knock on wood). The only think to watch for is that 99 is a weird year. These trucks are generally quite reliable, but less so in 99. Other people have have said this before, and my brothers 99 has minor things going, nothing major, but annoying like a mosquito bite. This might be because the guy who owned it before him didn't take good care of it an let it sit though.... Moral of the story: try and make sure it was well maintained and you should have a nice truck there.

I have a 4.6 DOHC in my Mark VIII with 190,000. I use Mobil 1 every 5,000 miles and still get better than 24 mpg city/hwy with lots of power. I'm currently putting a similar engine in my '98 Expy. The engine came from my son's Mark VIII that was totalled by a red light running gentleman. I just changed the plugs on mine and the old ones were perfect after 102,000 miles, Autolite #764s, copper core. The gap was as I set it in 1998at 88,000 miles.
