i was wondering how hard is it to change from auto hubs to manual. i have auto now and they dont work, i dont want auto hubs. is there more to it than just buying the hubs?
from what i've seen in previous postings your best bet, if you're going to do this yourself, is to buy a kit from someone like Warn and follow the directions carefully. Depending on the year of your vehicle you may need additional parts.
BM, Here is Tony's great site on the auto to Warn prem manual hubs with many pics:

the picks are avail. at wally mart, etc, or use a thin flat bladed screwdriver; the locknut socket is avail at napa etc..get the right socket for your year.

As the prev poster advised, you may need the conversion kit (from warn) and a torx driver for the outer dust cover.
Hello I had the same problem as you.
If you look down the post list to a post called stupid question it will answer all your questions. Once I purchased the hubs it took me less than an hour to change them out.
I have a 93 XLT 5.8 that has been converted from auto to manual Warn Premium hubs. Go for the Warn hubs for sure. There are two different types of Warn hubs....the silver, which are standard hubs, and the gold, which are the premium hubs. Go with the Warn premium hubs you won't regret it. I got mine done through the dealer about two monthes ago and they charged me $79 for the brand new Warn Premiums plus $65 to install them. Good Luck.
You may not need the conversion kit. Look at your hubs. There will be either 3 or 5 screws holding the outer cover on. You will only need to purchase the conversion kit if your hubs have 3 screws holding them on. If yours has 5 bolts, then all you need to purchase are the hubs. I would recommend the Warn premium hubs too. I have them on both of my trucks. I like them because of the no-questions-asked lifetime warranty.
