i have a 1979 ford f150 body bronco chasiss truck.. it has a loud suckton sound when i push down on the brakes with it started..when not started it is rock hard like normal...first thought brake booster so i went and got one from the broncos orginial body .i know it works..and switched em. still same thing...and i even pumped the hell outta the brake pedal on both booster to see if maybe i just got major air in the lines but no luck... anyone got any suggestions.? thank you.
The suction sound you are hearing is a symptom the diaphram in the booster has failed.Does the 1 from the Bronco do the same thing? If it does you have 2 failed boosters. If it doesn't check the hose from the engine to the booster.Make sure it's not split or sucking air.Hope this helps.
StarTrash, hate to be the bearer of bad news but both boosters are junk. Not surprising considering the age of them. The rubber diaphrams will dry rot over time and eventually split. This is what creates the suction sound you hear.
You can get a new/re-mfg booster master cylinder at Auto Zone for $125.00 I just got one for my 78 F250, They had to order it, took like 3 or 4 days to get. But thats the ticket for "safe" brakes. Cheap price for saftey and you get it all in one shot and your done viola!
thanks for the replys..all i need is the booster and its 87.99 and a 21.00 core charge so i guess itll be on hold till next week damnit..lol...thanks guys.

From what I hear it's better to change both master cylinder and booster at the same time not that much more thats why I did it. But I imagine that would be ok? Just my .02 cents
i guess it would be better yea that would make sense..mines farly new though i think the guy i bought the truck from said he replaced it like 5 years ago..
